When you are pregnant there really are a lot of things that you r have to worry about. One of the biggest problems that most women have is trying to figure out how to get good nights sleep. This can be a very difficult task, especially as you begin to approach your third trimester. So I decided to sit down with a few women from my area, who have already gone through all of the various stages of pregnancy. I wanted to see if they know of anything that really worked for them that may help others. Following are the questions that I asked and the responses that I got.
So the main question that I wanted answered was is there really any way to get a good nights sleep when your pregnant? Out of the ten women who were there seven including myself agreed that there are ways to sleep comfortably. One mother pointed out that it is important to find out what method works best for you. Since all people all different this statement really does make sense. One suggestion was to purchase a body pillow. Several of the mothers I spoke with tried this and they said that it worked well for them. They would use the pillow between their legs, when they were sleeping on their side, and lay their head on the top part of the pillow. Body pillows are pretty big, which is why this odd position is possible. Some of the mothers also chose to put a pillow under their belly to take away some of the pressure that the extra baby weight causes.
The next question that I asked was about the use of a maternity belt or a girdle while they slept. Nine out of ten of the mothers there said that they did not like using the maternity belt, when they were in bed. Most of them thought that it was ok to use during the day, but found it to be a bit uncomfortable when they were trying to sleep. I was not too sure about this since I have never used a maternity belt or a girdle myself, but I did find it interesting that many did not care to use it. Another suggestion that was offered by one of the mothers was to put on some relaxing music. If the music tends to bother your husband then you may want to use headphones. What she did was use the body pillow, and the relaxing sounds of the ocean, and she had no problems when it came to sleeping. Her doctor suggested the idea of relaxing music as a way to get her body to relax. One final suggestion is the more pillows the better. Your husband may begin to feel a little crowded out by all the pillows but if it means that you can get good nights sleep then it is definitely worth it.
